We at Gilbert Vet Hospital are proud of our longevity in the community caring for animals. We have been located just south of the corner of Ray and Gilbert Roads for 30 years. Dr. Beverly Scott joined the hospital in 1978, which was owned by Dr. John Woods, and bought the practice in 1979. Gilbert Vet was the first and remains one of the few privately owned small animal hospitals in Gilbert. We are an AAHA accredited hospital, which means we have passed the stringent standards required by the American Animal Hospital Association. We have 6 doctors and 23 staff members who provide professional, compassionate care for your special dog and cat companions.
Last week, a beloved pet of one of our clients almost lost his life. Sumo, an eight year old Japanese Chin, who has been battling urinary stones for months, had two options. He needed to have a procedure to surgically remove the stones because the diet and medication hadn't worked as hoped. Unfortunately, his owner could not afford that option. The other option, sadly, was euthanasia. His owner, an elderly woman, was crushed. This dog was her world, as are our pets to us and yours are to you. She didn't want him to suffer and be in pain, so she set the appointment for his last visit to GVH. We are dedicated to our clients and their pets, and we felt there had to be something more that could be done. These could not be the only two options. But in reality this dog's only hope was to have the surgery. Therefore, if his owner was not able to pay for the surgery that meant someone else had too. As a result, The 'My Only Hope Fund' was born, because it truly was Sumo's only hope to continue a life dedicated to his aging owner. This fund was set up to help pay for Sumo's surgery and for treatment for pets in similar situations. It was important that Sumo have the surgery promptly, and so he did. However, we still need to raise the funds to cover the cost of Sumo's surgery. If you would like to donate to help pay for Sumo's surgery, or to help another pet in need in the future, please send your donations via one of the following options. Please send checks to: Gilbert Veterinary Hospital,or call us for credit card dontations. Thank you for any help you can give.
Staying current on the latest advancements in veterinary medicine is very important at Gilbert Veterinary Hospital. Our Doctors and staff are constantly learning by attending veterinary conferences, reading veterinary journals, researching the latest information available on special veterinary websites, and attending educational meetings. In 2008 we already have our Doctors and staff scheduled for some very informative trainings and conferences.
We now have an in hospital ultrasound unit and our Doctors will be attending training through out the year. Some training will be done in our hospital and some will be in Texas where there is a specialist group that does ultrasound training for veterinarians.
Our digital dental x-ray unit has been a great addition to help us diagnose problems and care for your pet's teeth. Dr Foster, Dr Watson and 2 of our technicians will be attending a dental workshop to learn more about dentistry. When they return they will be sharing what they learned with all of our staff.
So, if you call for an appointment and your Veterinarian is out of town, there is a good chance they are off learning more about veterinary medicine so they can better care for your pet. We appreciate your understanding as we strive to provide the best care possible.
